Tips for Keeping Kids School Clothes Newer, Longer
As you're choosing your child’s outfit for school, you realize your kid’s favorite shirt has lost much of its once vibrant color. The cotton shirt that was remarkably soft when you purchased it, has also now become hard and even uncomfortable for your child to wear. However, it does not always have to be this way!
There are a number of ways that you can go about preserving the quality of your and your child’s clothes. Here are a few suggestions to help keep those clothes looking and feeling new!
Use the Right Detergent
Contrary to popular belief, not all detergents accomplish the same goal. This is why, in order to preserve your family’s clothing, you must figure out the best detergent for the type of clothing you are washing! Some detergents are meant for more durable clothing that may have dirt or other stains caked on them. You do not want to use this detergent for your daughter’s blouse that just needs a simple cleaning! Picking the right detergent can make a huge difference in keeping your clothes looking new longer!
Select the Correct Washer Setting
It may seem simple, but the washer setting has a huge impact on the way that your clothes are cleaned. Most clothes should be cleaned in the lightest setting your washing machine has. This is prevents any unnecessary wear and tear that may occur when washing. For more heavy-duty fabrics, a regular setting should cause no harm.
No Delicate Setting? Use Mesh Bags
Especially in older washing machines, it’s not uncommon for a light setting to be absent. In place of this setting, mesh bags can prevent unwanted damage to clothing by taking on a large amount of the tumbling while cleaning and also prevent tangling or tearing. The best part is these bags are inexpensive with prices as low as $3.50. Simply having an older washing machine doesn’t mean that you can’t have long-lasting clothing as well!
Keep clothes out of Direct Sunlight
Nowadays, hanging your clothes outside to dry is much more uncommon; however, it’s not uncommon to have your pile of clothes sitting next to a sunny window, or hanging your clothes up but leaving the shade open for sunlight to get in. Soon those vibrant letters on your son’s shirt have become just a figment of what they once were. It may not seem like a big deal to have sunlight on your clothing, but sunlight fades your clothing over time without you realizing it. By keeping your clothing away from open windows, your clothing’s color will stay brilliant. A simple, yet very effective way to prevent unwanted fading!
Don’t Clean Too Many Clothes at Once
With the dreaded pile of laundry sitting in the corner of your children’s rooms, the last thing you want to do is wash two, or even three loads of laundry to clean all of their clothes. While it may seem enticing to put as many clothes in the machine as will fit at once, it in fact causes more problems than it’s fixing. All of the printed graphics on your child’s shirts and pants begin to rub together, causing them to crack and fall off. When you open your washing machine you realize that half of Spiderman’s arm is gone and the Hulk doesn’t look as menacing as he did before the wash. By splitting the large load of laundry into smaller, more manageable loads, there won’t be as much friction between the different pieces of clothing keeping the graphics intact!
